On a wet and
blustery evening a much depleted Latharna Og side took to the field
for the visit of Davitts. The Ballytober pitch had held up well with
the amount of rain which had recently fallen. The Larne team lined
out as follows.
Sean Flaherty
Conor
Barkley James McKillop Stephen McCormick
Ciaran
McAllister Mark Armour Philip Craig
Niall O'Toole
Sean Clarke
Gary
Bergin Mark Robinson Chris Rolsten
Shaun Emmett
Billy Bell Mick McElhinney
Larne defended
the Cairncastle end in the first half and played into the breeze.
Davitts took advantage of the breeze in the first half and scored
several frees which had been conceeded by the Larne half back line.
Latharna Og managed to score 2 points in the first half despite
missing some scorable frees and 65's to leave the half time score
Latharna Og 0-02, Davitts 0-07.
In the second
half Latharna Og did not fare much better as an element of
despondency appeared in their play in contrast to several recent
high tempo performances and they appeared to be going through the
motions of fulfilling the fixture. Davitts however managed to keep
their nose in front and absorb any Larne attacking play. The Larne
men were unable to penetrate the Davitts rearguard and Davitts
scored 1-05 in the second half to leave the final score Latharna Og
0-06. Davitts 1-12.
This was a
performance best forgotten by the Craigyhill Terrors. Although
missing several key players due to holiday etc. the determination
and hunger required was not present throughout the team. As a result
many aspects of their play became lethargic. With the back line
under pressure for periods of the game an excellent performance at
corner back by Conor Barkley was the highlight of the game from a
Latharna Og perspective. Manager James McKillop put in his usual
sterling performance at full back and first half performances by
Mark Armour and Philip Craig in the half back line are worthy of
mention.
